|J.J. & W.Jr. Henry - U.S. Contract Flintlock Musket - .70 cal.; 33" barrel. - Very good condition. - Fairly smooth dark mottled patina metal, patina cleaned over maker markings. Good markings include "J.J&W.Jr HENR" center bottom lockplate & "PHILa / US" behind hammer, along with F, P, & US on left side barrel breech. Iron furniture. Working. Sound stock w/ usage & storage marks. - I’m far from expert on these. Best I can tell, this gun combines features of various early U.S. pattern flintlocks, as sometimes found on contract makers’ arms. Primarily it is based on the Harpers Ferry 1795 pattern. Some sources report that some U.S. muskets were shortened to this 33" barrel length by the gov’t, but I suspect this was shortened by someone else as the front barrel band does not engage the retention spring. This is a rare variation of a scarce maker marking on contract muskets. - antq - item #MF-H112R - $2,350|
U.S. Springfield Model 1816 Type III Flintlock Musket With Bayonet and Accessories - .69 cal.; 42” round barrel. - Condition is very good plus. - Mostly smooth even brown metal under protective varnish layer. Very good markings include eagle over U.S. and “SPRING / FIELD / 1838” on lock plate & “1839” on barrel tang; with eagle head, V & P in oval on breech. Heavy pitting on triggerguard & sideplate, with lighter pitting on buttplate & barrel bands. Very good mech & bore. Fine sound wood with faint cartouche on top rear of stock and “JOSH KATE” carved large on the left side of butt. - Replaced incorrect ramrod is broken. Socket bayonet w/ 16” triangular blade is marked “US” & “TA”. Wooden tampion & brass chained pick & brush set are also included. - antq - item #MF-1154 - $3,350
Flintlock Carbine - .70 cal.; 18.5" round barrel; 34" overall. - Very good condition. - Mottled gray metal; fairly crisp; barrel with small proofs at rear; sideplate marked "Mre / de / Versailles / 1789". Good mech. Sling ring & bar on left side. Captive ramrod. - Nice Napoleonic Wars era flint carbine. - antq - item #MF-CDY - $1,750
|Flintlock musket - .72 cal.; 42.5" barrel. - Fair condition. - Mottled dark gray metal; light pitting on barrel, heavier on lock. Barrel is rusted underneath the wood stock. On left rear of barrel top there what looks like a conjoined AM under a crown, and a broad arrow over a script B. On left rear of barrel under the wood there’s "M.R."; "II", and some other unclear markings. Altho it doesn’t show in the picture, the head of the screw thatholds the flint in the cock has a hole through it in addition to the slot. Bottom of trigger guard (not shown) has a teat on the front tang and a long rear tang with a rounded end. On the lock plate there was a crown over some script letter, possible a B or a J. Three barrel bands are missing; stock is inlet for the springs. Also appears that 3 pins to hold the barrel are missing. - Stock much usage wear; crack at left side of tang; long losses along front of barrel channel. Dished out area for cheek on left side of stock. Metal ramrod. Reported as having been handed down in family since Revolutionary War. - antq - item #MF-Louis - $1,650|
