Kevin Coster, THE POSTMAN, attributed Winchester - Model 92
saddle ring carbine - from Stembridge Armory, used in movies. - .44 WCF
- 20" barrel. - Good condition. - Dull red-brown paint over old bright
reblue. Working. Sound wood w/ lots of usage marks. Legible markings include
property house "RKO / S211" and large Stembridge "S". Hang tag reads "THE
POSTMAN - KEVIN COSTNER / This gun was painted to appear rusty & old - bore
is plugged with 40 yrs of accumulated black powder fouling." - From that
note, and the fact that repro 92’s would have been readily available when
The Postman was made if they had bought one specifically for that movie, it
is likely this rifle also has a long history of usage in other movies. Also
note the RKO marking. RKO studios ceased production in 1957, suggesting this
has been a Hollywood gun for a long time. Robert Mitchum starred in a string
of RKO Westerns from 1944 to 1954. From a fast forward through the Postman
DVD (panned by critics, but a movie I really like), it appears this rifle is
the one used to kill the bad guy in the final climatic fight. It would be
interesting to check out some other Costner flicks to see if the gun can be
spotted elsewhere. - This gun is documented by photo, s/n & description as a
Stembridge gun with specific movie attribution in the Little John’s Auction
catalog, 6/5/07. – s/n 939914 - C&R ffl - item #RW-Cstnr - $7,500 |

Montenegrin - Gasser revolver - from Stembridge Armory, used
in movies including use by Stewart Granger or James Mason in PRISONER OF
ZENDA. - .44 cal. - 5.5" barrel. - Good condition. - Fairly smooth brown
metal; markings probably from Stembridge include "120 S" (inventory number?)
and "5 in 1" & "5-1" (indicates to be used with five-in-one blanks).
Original markings include various proofs & "For 44 Winchester Cartridge".
Needs trigger return spring, otherwise working; very dirty bore. Nicely
yellowed old bone grips. - With tags of poster & photos from the movie,
including stills of the gun being used in the film. - This gun is documented
by photo, s/n & description as a Stembridge gun with specific movie
